Not sure I buy that it's about altering the feeling of normal, I think it's about doing just enough to appease some people that you're doing "something" while still keeping some money rolling in. Not saying it's effective in practice, probably mostly window dressing. However I would guess that the average distance traveled within conference is far lower, despite the exception examples. Unless you're Bama, and force all your non-conference cupcakes to come to you.

I really do not see there being college football this year.
Road trips, 70 players + 20 staff, take a plane, stay at a hotel... all of that?
Then 3 kids get it in the same lockerroom, and the whole team gets tested over and over and the political driven hate comes and they end the season.
